ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: self-care is an act of survival and self-love because it all starts with you

Today for me was a self-care day because, like Audre Lorde said, ‘I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent. On the contrary, caring for myself is an act of survival”.

So that’s exactly what I did. I looked after myself – slept, read, ate, pampered myself.  The art of il dolce far niente and I did it with absolutely no guilt whatsoever.

A month ago, I would have felt I had wasted a day ( I should have done something, I should have been writing, blah blah blah…), but after the 30 Days To A More Powerful Self-Image from Write For Your Life – The Home Seminar For Writers I know that downtime is as essential and serves to recharge and contributes to the creative juices.

What about you: when was the last time you just took a day to yourself for yourself?

And to finish, a poem by Hasmukh Mehta:

Take care of you self
and consider it as treasure in shelf
as no one else is going to worry
and carry the burden

let people term you selfish
and finish
it by saying such thing
you are committed to call your self as well being

not all people shall like
and strike
with unkind gesture
but it is you who is responsible for the future

whole world is like this
except the trees
who always give
with kind nature and forgive

but it hardly matters
before they shatter
the world of your dreams
and block the light and beam
