What benefits do employees really value?
When employees are asked which benefits would be most valuable for them, a majority opts for benefits that help them combine work with the quality of life. The value of work-life integration cuts across different generations. What does this mean in practice? Moreover, what benefits do employees really value?
Here is a quick list (not fully inclusive, but it’s a start):
- Flexibility and work-life integration
- Outcome-based environment, not presenteeism.
- Flexible working/hours.
- A baseline of trust.
- Learning
- Opportunities for learning and advancement.
- Well-Being
- Supporting physical and mental health.
- Alignment of values.
- The value of saying thank you.
It is simple, non?
As you can see, most of these benefits and work-life integration are “culture-based”. And they do not necessarily involve significant financial investment. Or super-schemes. And a massive administrative burden. No, they address the basic human needs: safety, security, significance, variety, growth. And contribution. Moreover, addressing those human needs is achievable by big organisations and small businesses alike.
First and foremost, employees need commitment. To them.
Everything else follows. It really is that simple.
How about that?
