The People Alchemist Blog

By The Alchemist About Town 16 May, 2017

Hello  I am Laura Mariani, the Founder of the People Alchemist .

The Alchemist About Town - Lifestyle - is a blog for entrepreneurs, business owners and their employees wanting to experience the best of British food, culture, travel and lifestyle; after all, business life is a part of a business owner’s life. The Alchemist About Town is an extension of The People Alchemist . My is motto is “Ignite your People, Transform your Company” ; I strongly believe in empowering and strengthening businesses through a healthy work and personal life - the power of people, places and things to do.   A successful entrepreneur/business owner/career person will achieve their goals through a healthy personal life; as a result, the blog showcases and reviews both business topics (the business blog)  lifestyle, food , travel and culture .

The blog was born after I found limited lifestyle blogs for the modern day business owner/entrepreneur/career person wanting all things food, fashion and lifestyle that ties in with their unique lifestyle, whilst showcasing the very best of British and beyond.

I am so utterly delighted that my book is now out, available to order both on paperback and on Kindle edition just in time for Business Women's Day - YES!!!!!! :-)

STOP IT! It's all in your head   is my labour of love and my way to encourage, inspire and empower women to achieve what they want professionally and not be confined by societal, religious, family paradigms of what " women should do/are like" and, most importantly, the restrictions in their head.
If that is being CEO of a Global Company or a stay-at-mum or Director of Paperclip ( whatever grabs your fancy) so be it.

Writing this book was also a personal challenge ( the 30 days thingy) which confirmed to me once and for all that you can really do whatever you set your mind to, if you really want to that is.

Couple of tips for writing a book from me:
  • write about what you are passionate about, you know more than you think.
  • free-write about the parts/chapters in the book you like the most and you are most interested in first - that will give you a great boost at the beginning - you can edit and add the boring bits later - by then most of the book will be almost there
  • keep your own voice - write as you speak so to speak ( people do need to understand you though..)
  • keep an open mind, ideas will flow into you mid-way through the project
  • a deadline and going public is good to beat procrastination ( but if that stresses you out too much don't do it) - the deadline certainly helped me.
You can do it too!!!

If anyone would like to be part of the book launch, the event is live on Eventbrite and you can buy an Early Bird ticket now:

The time is getting closer and closer to the release of   STOP IT, It's all in your head   my new book ( 22 September for Business Women's Day - US) .

I have now  received the proof copy of the paperback which looks absolutely fabulous: a couple of things to correct but overall I am super happy with the result.
A lot of marketing to do now between Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ ( which is PS: looking like more work than the actual writing of the book).

The book event/launch/talk is live on Eventbrite and you can buy an Early Bird ticket now:

For the official release date I chose 22 September to celebrate International Business Women Day (US) - I thought it would be a fitting tribute as the book is all about helping women overcome obstacles they are facing  on their way to the top leadership jobs and taking ownership of own career, life and defining own rules, in a  no-nonsense practical guide format.
It's all in you head - Smash Your Ceiling to Smash That Ceiling!

I love exploring London, all the little alleyways , the unknown galleries but most of all, finding  new and fabulous places to eat. That's why my #MyBestMealIslington monthly feature blog started, to showcase the best places to eat in my beloved Islington , followed by #MyBestMealLondon' ( I do get out Islington sometime, believe it or not ;-)).

I was recently in High Street Kensington for an event I attended and I had time to spare and I stumbled what as been once described as “Kensington’s best kept secret" , once covered by AA Gills article on the perfect Italian restaurant piece in the Sunday Times - Il Portico.
This cosy Italian restaurant is one of the oldest family run in London, spanning 6 decades and 3 generations and, most importantly for me, delivers authentic, good-value for money cooking,  super delicious without being fussy, freshly made and gutsy. When you walk in, and throughout the meal, you feel like you are being looked after by your own family - plenty of "very lively italian"interactions between staff and customers ( the restaurant is situated far down Kensington High Street, with less passing by trade and is clearly a favourite amongst locals).

Il Portico Restaurant was opened in 1960s by Pino Chaiavarini delivering regional Italian specialities  ( click here for sample menu )from his  home region of Emilia Romagna and beyond.
I love it with its perfect balance of comfort, authentic cucina and the very best of Italian ingredients & affordable wines, you can't go wrong.
My starter was ' Fior di Zucca'  (fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta & anchovy, balsamic reduction), unusual but yummy and delicate at the same time followed by the ' Saltimbocca alla Romana' which were delightful perfection.
This is a perfect little place for watching the world go by, a simple meal and a nice glass of wine  - perfezione totale .

There is plenty to do and see in Kensington so, if you are out and about - either for business or for pleasure, why don't give it a go?

This a #musttry #MyBestMealLondon
Buon Appetito! x

So, it is day  24 of my How to write and publish a book in 30 days or so and I didn't write ( the diary) for now 4 days.

Yes, life got in the way together with my day-to-day business/meetings etc.etc. but , I need to be honest here as we are talking about accountability, I simply didn't fancy it.

And that is ok too..
Too many times we are so hard on ourselves on why we haven't done something ( guilt and beating yourself up don't help at all) and we lose prospective of the bigger goal/purpose of it all - for me is to finish and then publish my book ( incidentally I did write and progress the book even though I didn't keep the diary...).

So here  I am, at my desk and today I have been writing like crazy and I am super delighted with the result.
Watch this space for some news soon :-)

My quest to find nice places  to eat and provide you, my lovely readers, with an inside guide to the most foodie London borough ever - Islington - continues  (I know, I'm a tiny tad bias).
So let me help you experience Islington like a Islingtonian and introduce you to Salut a modern European restaurant  situated in Essex Road, also #MyBestMealIslington September monthly feature.

Salut  was opened in 2016 by brothers Martin and Christoph Lange who grew up in Germany ( Christoph has worked at kitchens all over Europe including Norway’s Maaemo and Denmark’s Noma - now relocated to Copenhagen ), with Martin’s girlfriend, making the most of local meat producers, sustainably sourced fish and organic vegetables all mixed with incredible passion.

‘Salut’ is the French for ‘hi’, or otherwise ‘cheers!’ in other parts of Europe and the name fits perfectly this special little place. A great bonus here is the open kitchen which means you can see the magic as it happens.

The food is wonderful and the prices are fairly aligned to some other Islington semi-posh establishments (someone might called them pricey ) with the portions on the small side but completely worth it.
The quality and presentation of the dishes is superb, the service great and the atmosphere intimate &  friendly ( it has around 30 seatings).

My Super Favourite dishes  ( Menu ):
  • Pan Fried Scallops, Pig’s Trotter & Green Apple Declination (starter)
  • 48 Hours Braised Pork Belly, Turnip, Cherry Kaffir Lime Leaf Sauce (main)
  • 100 % Chocolate, Served With Hot Sauce (dessert)
  • Selection of 5 Affined Cheeses, Condiments and Dried Fruits Bread (dessert) - Brillat – Savarin, Sauvaget, Fior di pecure, Comte Vieux, Bleu Brebis Basque - what can I say, I LOVE Cheese!!!)

Salut is definitely   #MyBestMealIslington - Essex Road- September  and a  #mustgoto: have you tried it? Non?
What are you waiting for???!

Try it and let me know what you think :-)

Laura xxx

Ooops, I didn't write my dairy yesterday so today is a double .
So, what have I been doing?

Yesterday it was a very productive day and I can definitely say that I am very prolfic  when I do my writing on any location but the house .

In the house there are too many distractions and other stuff that needs doing.
Outside the house it is just me, the laptop and a A4 Pad of paper and pens and that's it, I don't even connect to the wifi, which means uninterrupted writing/re-writing and so on....
I need to remember to keep ordering drinks (it is easy to get absorbed and forget which means little hydration but also slightly irritated baristas.... they run a business after all not a free office ).

Today no writing as I had quite a few meetings, happy nevertheless as I've managed to fix the date and venue for the book launch party which makes me even more determined, if that is possible .

What about you? Are you writing a book? What are/have been your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?
Please do share, thank you :-)

Day 18 of my journey on how to write and publish a book in 30 days ( or so) was quite intense,  finishing off and approving the design for the book cover - I'm quite happy with the result and can't wait to show you.

Plus I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to register/fill documentation for the appropriate taxation - as an UK author I need to make sure I don't end up double paying my taxes - I mean I need to do my civic duty but double paying seems too much..

Tired now, see you tomorrow x

Day 16 was a very productive day indeed: I managed to insert all the interviews I have done of women in leadership and business who so kindly shared their stories with me  (I have published 4 interviews #smashthatceiling #womeninspiringwomen - Natasha Makhijani ,   Rachel Dipper , Jackie Smithen  and Emmajane Taylor-Moran and the 5th is coming out tomorrow, - stay tuned -  I will publishing a couple more until the release of the book) , plus I chose all the pictures that will appear in the book AND I did some free writing for a couple of chapters.

Mindset is everything - is amazing what each and everyone of us is capable of doing once  we finally decide that we can.

I can't believe it is Day 15 of my Dairy on How to write and publish a book in 30 days (or so).
Only two weeks ago I started this adventure and I locked myself at the Sherlock Holmes Hotel in Baker Street for the weekend and managed to outline and blueprint the full book plus write a few chapters and been writing ever since.

I was inspired by people like Simon Coulson and Matt Lloyd who wrote books in very short time ( Simon took 60 hours total for his first book and Matt 48 hours - he locked himself in an hotel too).
I'm more than halfway through now and I am planning to put the book on pre-sale very soon.

I'm soooo excited by the possibilities ...

Hello everyone, it is Day 14 of my diary on hot to write and publish a book in 30 days ( or so) and today I am excited beyond belief as I've been planning my book party with my event organiser/manager: the theme, venue, order of the day , marketing, discounts and guest speakers.
I'm buzzing.....

There was not much writing I have to say but we have a plan, a campaign and agreed dates for the book pre-sale with list of things that need doing and I'm very happy with how everything is progressing so far . Happy days :-)
