ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: Business & Lifestyle Experimentation for #TheWomanAlchemist #SmashYourCeiling #WellnessWednesday – is the relationship with food an emotional or physical one?
Mental & Physical Well-Being is the basis for optimum performance. And a balanced life. So how can we tackle the rising obesity epidemic? Is it an emotional battle? Or addiction? Is it a chicken v egg situation?
I recently read an article about addition by Ollie Clark at Rehab 4 Addiction – Substance abuse in the Workplace: 5 important notes for HR staff. This made me think. Firstly about substance abuse and addiction in general. Secondly, more specifically, food addiction abuse. And also the current obesity epidemic. According to recent NHS statistics, obesity affects 1 in every four adults. And 1 in every five children aged 10 to 11 in the UK. Shocking.
WORK AND LIFE ARE INTERTWINED
Firstly, I am not a health and wellness blogger. But I firmly believe that work and life are intertwined. Therefore, mental and physical well-being is essential for living a full and fulfilling business and life.
I write (A LOT) about women in business. How to empower women to achieve their career goals. For this to happen, so much depends on self-belief. And confidence.
THE RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD
For women especially, the relationship with food, and sometimes consequent addiction to food, determines our relationship with our body, including confidence.
The problem here is, what comes first? Is this an emotional battle? Or a metabolic/substance abuse-type battle?
I have talked about my views and my experience with food previously. Physical well-being is the precursor/enabler of mental well-being. Many issues with mental health stem from hormonal and chemical imbalances. Which guess? Stem from food/nutrition. The basis from optimum performance starts from within!!
