In recognition of women who lead
Hello everyone!
It is International Leadership Week.
We can all think of a person who was born to lead. Someone who makes a difference, whether it be in the workspace, in the community, or in the world.
Great leadership is of absolute necessity for progress and function – and while this role was traditionally for men, we, as women, are slowly levelling the playing field as more and more incredible ladies join the ranks of great leaders and show the world how it should be done!
However, while many women out there are smashing their ceilings, there is still a reservation among our fellow women in supporting these great leaders.
This behaviour must change.
If we don’t support our fellow ladies, then we can’t expect anyone else to do it for us. And in the same breath, when we reach roles of leadership, we won’t then have the support we require.
Showing support is fundamental to leadership
Leadership is a responsibility that cannot and must not be taken lightly.
However, leaders cannot ‘lead’ without support. But, in the same breath, showing support for our leaders does not mean that we agree with everything that is said and done. No, not at all.
Supporting a leader is much like supporting your friends and family. You create a relationship where your views are heard, appreciated, and acknowledged. At the same time, showing support is part and parcel of the give and take relationship that occurs between leaders and followers.
As you set out to #smashyourceiling, know that for you to do so, you will need the support of your fellow women.
Understanding this, I proudly recognise and support our female leaders of today.
While I may not always agree with everything said by our leaders, it in no way means that I will withdraw my support.
Continue smashing your ceiling and continue being great at what you do.
I see you. I acknowledge you, and I appreciate you.
Until next time x
